Potato Head: Where Good Food Meets Bali

06Mar

When in Seminyak, you might be wondering about several things:

  • What’s the coolest beach club around?
  • Where to find good food?
  • Which place offers a way to positively relax (yoga, meditation, etc.)

The good news is that we have the answer: Potato Head. It’s a one-stop place to experience it all – good food, swimming pools, and overall cool and fun place to be.

Potato Head is within walking distance from The Colony Hotel, so let’s take a peek at one of the things we love about our next-door neighbour – their excellent cuisine.

Creative pretty little bites

Appetizer

A good appetizer signals to your head that good food is coming in a colourful parade. So, small easy bite-sized teasers are all it takes to get you excited about your upcoming lunch.

Try the shrimp roll – fried shrimp in soft bread rolls with citrus in the background. Or the crispy chicken with Ijen hot sauce, spicy roasted nuts, or pork bao – Balinese spiced pork shoulder with Chinese hoisin sauce.

For the grill and BBQ lovers

grill pork ribs

Poolside lounging won’t feel complete without something straight from the grill. Roasted black pork ribs and Wagyu rib eye steak (with coffee spice rub and pommery mustard jus) are excellent choices for this.

Savour the smoky aroma without choking on BBQ smoke that would be really disturbing for the pool experience. The grilling stays in a professional indoor kitchen.

Truly creative green superfoods

One thing we love about Potato Head’s menu is that it meets different people’s needs. Have a bite of their vegan Tempe Burger, a sophisticated dish that strikes the balance between the acidity of a tomato, savoury tempe, vegan mayo and coriander, and avocado mash with fries.

The zucchini and ricotta ravioli introduces a product of Bali-Alm, a 100% Indonesian homemade cheesemaker. The ricotta is accompanied by zucchini, spinach, tomato sauce and nutmeg. It’s simply perfect for a healthy vegetarian choice.

Let’s not forget the salads – cauliflower, smoked beetroot and Halloumi salad – available with rich toppings such as toasted almonds, strawberries, mint leaves and pickled cherry tomato.

Quality seafood

Jimbaran Bay Market is where you would purchase the freshest seafood, caught and sold within the same morning. When it comes to seafood, Potato Head handles it well.

Clams are steamed with aromatic lime and served with coconut broth, reds (chili and tomato), greens (coriander and bean sprouts), and other aromatics like lemongrass and ginger.

Lobsters and prawns are their specialty. Check out their ceviche, marinated with leche de tigre, and the classic pan-roasted garlic king prawns with their toasted nutty flavours that you can appreciate in the background.

Cocktails

Potato Head Beach Club Bali treat their cocktail creations like serious artworks. Imagine drinking out of a coconut shell, blowing evaporated dry ice in the swim up bar. Just don’t accidentally spill the ice into the pool – pretty sure this happened once before!

Here is a selection of the exciting stuff they make. Choose a few from the dozens of liquors, wines, and other alcoholic beverages:

The Passionello Martini is a sweet combination of tamarillo and passion fruit (hence the name), wild honey, traditional brem wine, citrus vodka, mixed in together with sparkling wine.

Volcano Agung gets its name from the island rums and Balinese pineapple arak. Passion fruit is present again, with ginger, actual pineapple juice and honey.

Barong Zombie is a rather strong one in their collection. A daring blend of pineapple arak, absinthe, and island rums, topped with cane juice, pink citrus, jackfruit juice, tangerine, and sweet falernum.

Are we missing anything? Sure, you can say we missed out a lot of other food! You can explore Potato Head’s complete menu when you get there. Walk or drive for 4 minutes, passing the Masceti temple on Petitenget Road, then turn left at WK Tattoos (in front of Dash Hotel Seminyak).
