Staying Healthy on the Jogging Tracks of Seminyak

18Sep

Humans are built for running, and running the “jogging track” of Seminyak is possibly the best health treatment you can give to yourself. If you have brought along your trusty sneakers to Bali, then you’re in for an enjoyable time as Seminyak’s west-facing waterfront, beach, and boardwalks are relatively flat, not crowded during certain hours, and host to some pretty exceptional views.

In this article, we’ll run down the scenes that you’ll come across on the jogging tracks of Seminyak while giving you snippets of insights on what running in Seminyak feels like.

Jogging at Seminyak, Kuta

Pantai Jerman – Segara Beach (flat, about 2 km)

From The Colony Hotel, you can grab a ride with an online application (there is no Uber here, but there are a couple of local alternatives), and then make your way to Pantai Jerman, which is around 100 m from the airport boundaries. When an airplane takes off, try to outrace it!

Along the shoreline, especially in the early morning, you can find only joggers and a few early-risers who are looking to sell some delicious fried snacks. Pacing yourself slowly up north, you’ll come across Pura Cedok Waru — just one of hundreds of shrines that were built around Bali’s coastlines.

After a couple of kilometers, you’ll reach Segara Beach. This is usually the ultimate seafood hub that opens in the afternoons. If you run in the evening, you may be tempted by the alluring smell of fish BBQ grills.

Segara Beach – Kuta Beach (flat, about 3 km)

Continuing forward from Segara Beach, the track bends northwesterly. The sea to your left seems to become more and more appropriate for surfing, and then you may need to get off the ‘jogging track’ and run next to the not-so-busy street (in the morning, that is). Continuing on, you may find that the not-so-busy street joins up with the main road lined with the restaurants and shopping malls that may be familiar to you.

This is Kuta, and you have a choice to continue your run on the pedestrian path or challenge yourself to run barefoot on the beach.

Tips on running barefoot on the beach

The safest section of the beach to run barefoot is the area where the water touches the sand. The wet sand is sturdy, the waves wash away pebbles, and because the water flattens the sand around it, you can clearly see if there are any hazards on your path.

It’s not advisable to run barefoot further inland. You may toss sand around and will step on twigs and stones. Although Kuta beach is much cleaner now with the plastic bag and trash ban, it’s still painful to step on natural hazards.

Running back to The Colony Hotel?

The Colony Hotel is located in Petitenget, which is still 2-3 km from Kuta beach. However, if you pace yourself wisely, you’ll get there. The morning scenery is wonderful, as Kuta slowly come to life, and warm up after sleeping so late at night. Seminyak in particular is a lot more spacious, and Petitenget beach looks spectacular during this time of day.
